The Sapling Project (2020)
The Sapling Project is One Lost Tree's first professional recording Project, completed in 2020, including 2 songs written last century, and one fresh tune. This is meant to get us going, give us momentum with some of my existing material - like a sapling.
Line up:
- Mark Siefert (Keys, Vox)
- Tim Onorato (Bass, Vox)
- Don Stone (Accoustic Guitar, Vox)
- Chris Amato (Drums)
- Aaron Christopher (Electric Guitar)
- Clarence Clark, IV "CJ" (Saxophone)
Where Did (Coffee Cup)
Inspired by a moment at Owlfest with Max (Riley) Carpenter when I had misplaced my new favorite coffee mug. "I'm gonna write a song about this - it happens so much!"
Musically, i wanted a ganre buster, and wanted to break some rules. Our "Technical Difficulties" 3rd verse managed to keep a beat in spite our original intentions.
Drawn Astray
In 1985 i had a strong urge to collaborate but felt too possessive of my compositions up to this point to want any one else's inputs. Then one night i watched a Miami Vice episode with Phil Collins as an actor. For this new song i pretended i was the insignificant heart broken pool boy in this episode (ya - this is NOT anykind of autobiographical song.)
Musically, i really like the fundamental piano part, but really wanted this to be more about my fellow musicians and what direction would it take? We did manage a progressive feel in the break, but this is some sort of pop tune, letting me show off my musician friends.
Promise Me
I wrote this song in 1984 as a proposal to my wife, Suzanne.
This was a great opportunity to record in a top notch studio with the Sapling Project line up, and an engineer that very well understood my musical taste.
